Portrait Awards Terms & Conditions
Following are the rules for entering into Seattle Artist League’s Portrait Awards. Participation in the Portrait Awards constitutes entrants full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules and the decisions of the Seattle Artist League, which are final and binding. Winning an Award is contingent upon being compliant with these Official Rules and fulfilling all other requirements below.
Seattle Artist League’s Portrait Awards is open to artists worldwide, who are at least sixteen (16) years of age at the time of entry. Employees of the Seattle Artist League are not eligible to win. The Seattle Artist League’s Portrait Awards are subject to federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Paintings can be oil, watercolor, gouache, pastel, acrylic, pencil, pen, or collage. No Photography. Experimental, digital, and mixed techniques are acceptable, as long as 75% of the work uses some sort of paint, pen or pencil.
Entries must have been completed within the last 18 months.
Your art must be your own original concept and not a copy of anyone else’s copyrighted material. It may not be a copy of someone else’s photograph.
You may only submit your own artwork that you personally created. If there is any question about authenticity, the Seattle Artist League reserves the right to demand proof of authorship.
This exhibition will be entirely online. Artwork does not need to be available to show in person. Sold work, works not for sale, and works not available to show in person are eligible to win.
The fee for entry is $35. Artists do not need to be affiliated with the Seattle Artist League to win, but SAL Members enter free! Contact us for your member code. A selection of entries will be published on our website. By entering your work into the Seattle Artist League Portrait Awards, you are granting Seattle Artist League a non-exclusive, perpetual license to reproduce images of your artwork for promoting the Seattle Artist League, you, and your work.
The Seattle Artist League has the sole right to refuse submissions based on quality of the image, failure to meet show requirements, poor quality, inappropriateness of content, and/or concerns regarding copyright infringement in the original work. As a result, the entry fee shall be forfeited by the entrant.
Prepare your images as required before beginning the submission process. Submissions are only accepted via artcall.
Image files must meet the following specifications:
JPG files only.
Angle and crop the image so the edges of the artwork match the edges of the photo.
Bright and uniform lighting across the artwork, no dark spots or glare.
300 DPI resolution (Please try to keep the file size under 10 MB to ensure proper loading).
Do not submit images in which the artwork has been framed, is behind glass, or contains watermarks.
IMPORTANT: Label your image files with your first and last name, image name, the medium used, size, year created.

If your images are chosen, Seattle Artist League may color adjust and crop your images for use in materials and promotions.
